On another day, you may feel unsettled without a matching rise. That does not make your feelings wrong. The app estimate and your experience describe different things. Use the graph to ask what happened at that time, then add context.

How does WHOOP measure stress, and what does 0–3 mean?

WHOOP describes Stress Monitor as using current heart rate and HRV against a personal baseline from the previous 14 days, with motion taken into account. Its scale runs from 0 to 3: lower readings indicate lower physiological stress and higher readings indicate greater activation within this system. It is not a percentage of stress or a way to rank people.

The score does not identify anxiety, anger or a mental health condition, and the graph alone cannot explain a change. WHOOP states that its information should not be used to draw conclusions about mental health or replace medical advice.

Start with three questions about your workday graph

Pick a period and ask: what was I doing, was the rise brief or sustained, and what happened after the activity changed? WHOOP describes the daily graph as a way to review when readings rose and fell. These three questions help organize observations for a later review.

1. Put events beside the time

Use short notes such as walking from the station, meeting, submitting work or lunch break. If you cannot remember the time, mark it as uncertain. Do not invent an event to fit the graph. A later review should show what you know and where context is missing.

2. Look at the pattern before the highest point

A short rise followed by a fall and a sustained elevated period invite different questions. Look for breaks or activity changes between them. The aim is to understand the pattern of your day, rather than trying to keep every reading at zero.

3. Compare days with similar context

For a recurring meeting, compare several occasions with similar timing and format. Note differences: perhaps one day involved a rushed commute and another allowed a quiet pause beforehand. Comparing a meeting day with a holiday cannot establish that work caused the difference; sleep, travel and other activities may also differ.

An example workday: from commuting to finishing work

Use this hypothetical workday to practise placing events beside the graph.

Morning: a rise appears while you hurry into work. Note the walk and when you sat down, rather than automatically labelling it work anxiety. Accounting for motion does not establish the cause of each peak.

Before and after a meeting: review both periods and record your feelings separately. If the graph is elevated while you feel prepared and focused, keep both observations. If you feel worried without an elevated reading, do not erase that experience to match the app.

Afternoon: if you want to try a screen break, choose a feasible pause and note its start and end. Review the graph later alongside how you felt instead of checking every minute. A change after one break is an observation, not proof that the break always works for you.

After work: choose one period you want to understand and one thing to observe tomorrow, such as whether you had a pause before a meeting. You do not need to explain every peak in a single day.

If you try breathwork, observe without assuming the outcome

WHOOP offers guided breathwork focused on relaxation or alertness. If it is available in your account and appropriate for you, choose a seated pause and follow the in-app guidance.

Record how you feel before and after separately from the graph. If the score falls, do not assume breathing was the only cause: you may also have sat down or stopped another activity. A lower score is not guaranteed. Stop if you feel unwell or dizzy, and ask a healthcare professional about specific techniques if you have health concerns.

How Stress Monitor fits alongside Journal and Recovery

Use Stress Monitor to identify periods worth noticing, WHOOP Journal to record routine context, and the Recovery, Strain and HRV guide to understand those separate metrics. Do not turn an intraday Stress reading into a prediction of tomorrow’s Recovery colour.

If data looks unusual, start by checking fit and syncing. Read the WHOOP fit guide for help with placement.

Frequently asked questions

<details class="wp-block-details lm-faq__item is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow">
Do I need a new band if I cannot see Stress Monitor?

Do not start by buying a replacement band. The WHOOP page checked on 4 October 2026 lists Real-time Stress Monitor under Peak, and Life includes Peak features. Check your membership and account availability with WHOOP first. Changing the band does not unlock app features.

</details>

<details class="wp-block-details lm-faq__item is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow">
Does a high reading while sitting mean I am anxious?

You cannot conclude that from the reading. It is not an emotion detector. Review context and feelings separately. Seek professional advice for symptoms or concerns affecting your life rather than using the score as the answer.

</details>

<details class="wp-block-details lm-faq__item is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow">
Should I keep the score low all day?

You do not need to aim for a low score all day. Use the information to observe routines and suitable pauses, rather than treating it as a daily success score or a reason to avoid every activity associated with a rise.

</details>

<details class="wp-block-details lm-faq__item is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow">
Does a fall after a break prove the break helped?

No. Keep it as an observation and review several occasions with similar context. One change cannot separate the break from other factors.

</details>

Read WHOOP Journal

Read Recovery and HRV

Check your WHOOP fit

LUXE MORE is an independent third-party retailer and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or an authorized reseller of WHOOP.
