Journal adds context such as meal timing, caffeine and bedtime routines. Consistent entries let you review patterns worth investigating.

Start with a question you actually want to answer

Choose a few everyday behaviors you can report accurately, such as eating near bedtime, caffeine timing or using screens before bed. You do not need to enable every topic. Where a question includes time or quantity, use a consistent approach so entries remain comparable.

Record what happened. Answer no on days when it did not happen; do not guess when you cannot remember. Never introduce a risky behavior just to collect yes responses.

Where and when to log

WHOOP’s guidance describes a morning prompt after sleep processing and a Journal card on the home screen, with past entries editable. Pick a time you can remember and stay consistent. Button names may vary by app version.

If you are starting out, connect logging to an existing routine, such as brushing your teeth in the morning. A short, consistent record is more useful than a long list completed only occasionally.

Why are Recovery Impacts not showing yet?

WHOOP specifies at least five yes and five no responses for each behavior within 90 days to generate analysis, and recommends at least 30 days of tracking for longer-term patterns. There is also a baseline period, so reaching the minimum count does not guarantee an immediate conclusion in every case.

Current guidance points to Behavior Insights under My Journal or access through the Recovery dial. If results are missing, check that behavior’s logging history first. No displayed result does not mean there is no association with Recovery.

A worked example: late dinner and the following morning

Suppose you want to explore whether eating near bedtime is associated with your own Recovery. Log that question as presented in the app while maintaining your usual routine. This is an interpretation example, not an experiment conducted by the shop.

When a pattern appears, ask whether late dinners also occur on late working days, after hard training or alongside later bedtimes. If several things happen together, the record cannot yet separate their contributions.

You might adjust one safe, manageable part of your routine, such as keeping meal timing more consistent, and continue logging without chasing a score. Review how you feel on waking, sleep consistency and several days of data together. When several parts of life change at once, record the context instead of assigning the Recovery change to one behavior.

Read the result as an observation

A positive or negative result is an association detected in that person’s recorded data. Other factors may be unlogged or changing at the same time. Do not turn a friend’s result into a rule for yourself, or treat an Impact percentage as a promise of the same Recovery change every time.

Journal can help you ask questions about routines. It cannot establish a diagnosis or select treatment. Do not stop medication, add supplements or replace medical advice based on a score. Consult a healthcare professional about abnormal symptoms.

Common questions

<details class="wp-block-details lm-faq__item is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow">
Do I need to log every topic?

No. Start with a few questions relevant to what you want to observe and can answer consistently. Adjust the list as your goals change.

</details>

<details class="wp-block-details lm-faq__item is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow">
I have logged five yes responses. Why is there no result?

The guidance requires at least five yes and five no responses for that behavior within 90 days, and there is a baseline period. The minimum response count does not guarantee an immediate result.

</details>

<details class="wp-block-details lm-faq__item is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow">
Does a positive Impact mean the behavior will definitely improve Recovery?

No. It is an association in recorded data, not a complete separation of all factors or proof of cause and effect. Treat it as an observation and continue reviewing context, how you feel and trends.

</details>

Understand Recovery, Strain and HRV

Check your WHOOP fit

WHOOP is a trademark of WHOOP, Inc.
